UP set to become global hub for electronics manufacturing: CM Yogi Adityanath
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 18 (HBTV): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to implement the Uttar Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025, a move aimed at transforming the state into a global hub for electronics manufacturing.
According to an official release, the policy is designed to attract large-scale investments, boost production, and generate significant employment opportunities, further strengthening Uttar Pradesh's position in India's rapidly growing electronics sector.
During a meeting held on Tuesday, the Chief Minister reviewed the proposed policy prepared by the IT and Electronics Department and issued guidelines for its implementation.
The Chief Minister said the electronics sector is the fastest-growing area of India's economy. India is now the world's second-largest mobile manufacturer, with Uttar Pradesh contributing nearly 60 per cent of the country's output.
‘Uttar Pradesh must capitalise on the immense potential in this sector. Over the past eight years, the state has made historic progress in industrial development. Now it is time for Uttar Pradesh to establish a distinct identity on the global map in electronics manufacturing. This policy will strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India while taking the state's economy to new heights,’ the Chief Minister said.
Officials noted that in 2014-15, electronics production in India stood at INR 1.9 lakh crore, which has risen to INR 11.3 lakh crore by 2024-25. Mobile production increased from INR 18,000 crore to INR 5.45 lakh crore, while mobile exports grew from INR 1,500 crore to INR 2 lakh crore. In 2023-24, electronics hardware exports from Uttar Pradesh amounted to approximately INR 37,000 crore.
The proposed policy aims to achieve USD 50 billion in electronics production within the next five years, generating nearly 10 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities. This is expected to significantly contribute to the state’s goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy.
Discussing the policy provisions, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh should provide top-up incentives along with the central government’s Electronic Component Manufacturing scheme. These would include subsidies on capital investment, additional benefits, exemptions on stamp duty and electricity charges, interest grants, logistics, and operational support.
He stressed that special incentives must be provided to investors who create jobs in the state, with preference given to local youth. He further directed that transparency and timely execution be ensured, with investors receiving all facilities through a single-window system to maintain ease of doing business.
The policy will also focus on aligning youth employment with industry needs, supported by skill development programmes. It is designed to promote research and development, innovation, skill training, and startup ecosystems. Electronics manufacturing clusters in Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway region will be further strengthened.
With the upcoming Jewar International Airport and the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Uttar Pradesh is expected to secure a stronger position in the global supply chain.
The Chief Minister said a concrete action plan must be prepared to make Uttar Pradesh a global hub for electronics component manufacturing. He added that the policy will not only attract foreign investment but also reduce import dependence, promote domestic value addition, and help save foreign exchange.
