Assam Rifles seizes methamphetamine tablets worth ₹102.65 crore in Mizoram's Champhai

Aizawl (Mizoram) [India], September 18 (HBTV): In a major crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles seized methamphetamine tablets worth ₹102.65 crore during a search operation near Zote village in Mizoram's Champhai district on September 17.

Acting on specific intelligence, troops intercepted a suspected individual carrying a consignment. When challenged, the person abandoned the load and fled into the jungle, taking advantage of the terrain.

A detailed search led to the recovery of 34.218 kg of methamphetamine tablets. The contraband was handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Champhai, for further legal proceedings.

The Assam Rifles said the operation highlights its determination to curb narcotics trafficking along the Indo-Myanmar border and protect the youth from the threat of drugs.

In another operation on September 16, Assam Rifles seized 2.462 kg of heroin worth ₹20.10 crore at Zokhawthar, Mizoram. The narcotics, along with the vehicle involved, were handed over to the Zokhawthar Police for investigation.

Earlier, on September 13, Assam Rifles had seized methamphetamine tablets worth over ₹7.11 crore during an anti-narcotics operation in Zokhawthar. Based on intelligence inputs, troops conducted a raid on September 12 in the World Bank Road-Vawkte Kai area. A suspect carrying a bag fled towards the river, abandoning the consignment, which was later found to contain 2.372 kg of methamphetamine tablets (around 20,200 tablets). The seized items were handed over to Zokhawthar Police for further investigation.

The force reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking networks and preventing the spread of narcotics in the region.
