Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed that from September 20 to 22, all official entertainment, ceremonial programs, and public celebrations will be suspended. Essential activities will continue under the ‘Sewa Saptah’ campaign, the Assam CMO stated.

A tweet from the Chief Minister’s office read: ‘In loving memory of Assam’s eternal voice, Zubeen Garg. As a mark of respect, HCM Dr @himantabiswa has directed that State Mourning be declared from 20th to 22nd September 2025. Essential service activities under ‘Sewa Saptah’ will continue, while ceremonial or benefit-distribution events stand postponed.’

The sudden demise of Garg has left a deep void among his fans both in Assam and beyond. Sarma said he has requested Singapore authorities for a detailed inquiry into the circumstances of the singer’s untimely death, following discussions with Singapore’s High Commissioner, Simon Wong, who assured full cooperation.

The Chief Minister will travel to Delhi on Saturday to receive Garg’s mortal remains from Singapore and transport them to Guwahati. Fans across Assam, including in Guwahati and Jorhat, were seen paying emotional tributes to the beloved singer.
