PM Modi visits three North-Eastern states, inaugurates and lays foundation stones of projects worth thousands of crores

New Delhi [India], September 14 (HBTV): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited Mizoram, Manipur and Assam, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of multiple development projects worth thousands of crores.

PM Modi began his trip in Aizawl, Mizoram, where he launched projects worth more than INR 9,000 crore across sectors including railways, roadways, energy and sports. He also inaugurated Mizoram’s first railway line, the Bairabi-Sairang route, which will connect the state to the rest of India.

‘This is not just a railway connection, but it is a lifeline of transportation. It will revolutionise the lives and livelihoods of people of Mizoram. Farmers and businesses of Mizoram can reach more markets across the nation,’ PM Modi said.

Due to adverse weather, the Prime Minister addressed the gathering from Lengpui airport, where he began his speech with: ‘I bow to the Supreme God Pathian, who watches over this beautiful land of the Blue Mountains.’

He also flagged off three express trains — the Sairang (Aizawl)-Delhi Rajdhani Express, the Sairang-Guwahati Express and the Sairang-Kolkata Express. In addition, he laid the foundation stones of several road projects, including the Aizawl Bypass Road, Thenzawl-Sialsuk Road and Khankawn-Rongura Road.

In Manipur, PM Modi visited Imphal and Churachandpur, where he urged various ethnic groups to shun violence and embrace peace. This was his first visit since the ethnic conflict erupted in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki communities.

‘I appeal to all the groups to move on the path of peace to fulfil their dreams and secure their children’s future. Today, I promise that I stand by your side. The Indian government stands with the people of Manipur,’ he said.

The Prime Minister noted that peace agreements have recently been reached with several groups, adding: ‘Peace is important for development in any region. In the last 11 years, several conflicts in the North-East have ended. People have chosen the path of peace, giving priority to development. I am satisfied as agreement talks have begun with several groups in the hills and valleys. This is a part of the government’s initiative to establish peace with communication, respect and mutual understanding.’

At Churachandpur, PM Modi laid the foundation stones of projects worth over INR 7,300 crore, including the Manipur Urban Roads and drainage and asset management improvement project worth INR 3,600 crore. In Imphal, he inaugurated projects valued at more than INR 1,200 crore, including the Civil Secretariat and IT SEZ building at Mantripukhri, new Police Headquarters, Manipur Bhawans in Delhi and Kolkata, and Ima Markets in four districts.

Later in Guwahati, Assam, the Prime Minister attended the centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika’s birth anniversary. He hailed Hazarika as a champion of India’s unity and said: ‘Bhupen Da was a great champion of India’s unity and integrity. Decades ago, when the North East was a victim of neglect and separatism, Bhupen Da kept giving voice to the unity of India. He dreamt of a prosperous North East. Today, we are working day and night to realise his dreams.’

PM Modi also released a commemorative coin and stamp in Hazarika’s honour.

On September 14, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of major infrastructure and industrial projects worth over INR 18,530 crore in Assam, including the Assam Bio-ethanol Private Limited and Numaligarh Refinery Plant at Golaghat, as well as the foundation stone of the polypropylene plant in Golaghat.

On September 15, he will visit West Bengal to inaugurate the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference-2025 in Kolkata, before travelling to Bihar to inaugurate the new terminal building of Purnea airport and launch projects worth around INR 36,000 crore. He will also launch the National Makhana Board in Bihar.
