New Delhi [India], January 26 (HBTV): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced that 100 per cent of the national capital’s public transport buses will be converted into an emission-free electric fleet within the next three years.

Addressing a gathering during Republic Day celebrations, the Chief Minister said the Delhi government has doubled its capital expenditure to INR 30,000 crore to support infrastructure development and public welfare initiatives. ‘To make Delhi better, we have decided that within three years, 100 per cent of Delhi’s public transport buses will be converted into an emission-free electric fleet. All necessary arrangements have been made to ensure that Delhi receives 11,000 electric buses,’ she said.

She added that infrastructure to support the electric fleet, including new charging stations and bus depots, is being developed at a rapid pace to ensure smooth operations and maintenance.

CM Gupta also highlighted the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health scheme in Delhi on the first day of the BJP government’s formation. She said that around 6.5 lakh people have registered under the scheme so far. ‘Ayushman Bharat, the country’s and the world’s largest health scheme, provides health insurance coverage of INR 10 lakh to beneficiaries,’ she said.

Reflecting on the government’s tenure, the Chief Minister said that several decisions aimed at public welfare had been taken over the past eleven months to bring positive change in the lives of citizens. She said the government had worked to address long-standing systemic challenges and provide a new direction to the capital, guided by the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.

During the Republic Day event at Chhatrasal Stadium, CM Gupta unfurled the national flag and reviewed the parade. She also paid tribute to freedom fighters and martyrs, stating that the Constitution has remained a guiding force for justice, equality and dignity over the past 77 years.

She said the sacrifices made for the nation and the values enshrined in the Constitution continue to inspire India’s journey of nation-building. (ANI)
