Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 23 (HBTV): In a historic push for financial literacy and women’s empowerment, 1.91 lakh schoolgirls across Uttar Pradesh visited bank branches under the fifth phase of Mission Shakti for the year 2025–26. The initiative, inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on September 20, aims to instil economic self-reliance and digital awareness among girls.

The programme was not merely an educational visit but a foundation for future financial independence, introducing students to the workings of banking systems, financial services, and digital banking. It focused on familiarising participants with savings, banking processes, and online financial tools. Students learned how to open a bank account, use passbooks, chequebooks, and ATM cards, and fill out deposit and withdrawal slips. They were also introduced to digital platforms such as mobile banking, UPI, and internet banking.

Special attention was given to savings and investment schemes, helping students understand how consistent savings can yield long-term benefits. Bank officials also briefed them on investment options like fixed deposits and recurring deposits while highlighting online safety practices to promote responsible transactions.

The students actively interacted with bank officials, asking questions and sharing observations. Their curiosity and enthusiasm made the sessions lively and engaging, enhancing both knowledge and confidence.

Key takeaways from the visits included understanding the process and documentation for opening a savings account, operating passbooks and chequebooks, filling deposit and withdrawal slips, learning the structure of financial transactions, and exploring digital services such as mobile banking and UPI. Awareness about online fraud and ATM safety was also emphasised.

Monika Rani, Director General of School Education, said, ‘During the auspicious days of Navratri, the bank visits by 1.91 lakh girls should not be seen merely as an activity. It is the foundation of tomorrow’s journey of economic empowerment for women. The aim of Mission Shakti is to provide daughters not only with knowledge but also with the power of self-reliance, and this initiative is a historic step in that direction.’
