New Delhi [India], October 10 (HBTV): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) successfully coordinated the return of wanted fugitive Manakandathil Thekkethi, also known as Sheela Allyani, from Saudi Arabia through Interpol channels, the agency said in an official statement on Thursday.
Thekkethi was wanted by the CBI in a case of criminal conspiracy and cheating.
‘In collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the CBI successfully coordinated the return of wanted fugitive Manakandathil Thekkethi alias Sheela Allyani on October 9 from Saudi Arabia. The subject is wanted by the CBI in a case of criminal conspiracy and cheating,’ the agency said.
The CBI noted that a Red Notice had been published through Interpol on October 5, 2023. A team of CBI officials visited Saudi Arabia and brought the fugitive back to India on October 9, 2025.
‘Red Notices published by Interpol are circulated to all law enforcement agencies globally for tracking wanted fugitives. The CBI, as the National Central Bureau for Interpol in India, coordinates with law enforcement agencies across the country through Bharatpol for assistance via Interpol channels,’ the statement added.
Highlighting its international cooperation efforts, the CBI said that more than 130 wanted criminals have been returned to India in recent years through coordination with Interpol.
Last month, the agency also facilitated the return of Munawar Khan from Kuwait through Interpol channels. Khan was wanted by the CBI in a case of forgery and cheating.
The International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of the CBI, in collaboration with the MEA and the National Central Bureau (NCB)-Kuwait, brought Khan back to India on September 11. He was wanted in a case registered by the CBI’s Special Task Branch (STB), Chennai, on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery for defrauding the Bank of Baroda. Shortly after committing the fraud, Khan fled to Kuwait and was declared a proclaimed offender.
