New Delhi [India], April 18 (HBTV): The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting began at Parliament House on Saturday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi chairing the session in the national capital.

Prime Minister Modi will also chair a Cabinet meeting later in the day to review measures taken by various ministries and departments.

He is scheduled to address the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) at Parliament as well.

Earlier on April 1, the Prime Minister chaired a special meeting of the CCS to discuss further initiatives in the context of the ongoing West Asia conflict.

The Cabinet Secretary briefed the meeting on steps taken to ensure the supply of petroleum products, particularly LNG and LPG, and to maintain sufficient power availability, according to an official release.

The Prime Minister assessed the availability of essential needs for the public, including fertilisers, and reviewed measures to ensure their supply during the Kharif and Rabi seasons.

The situation in West Asia escalated following a joint US-Israel military strike on February 28 on Iranian territory, which resulted in the death of its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other senior figures, prompting a response from Tehran.

The impact of the conflict on the global economy, including its short-term, medium-term, and long-term implications for India, was also assessed. Counter-measures, both immediate and long-term, were discussed.

A detailed review of the availability of essential commodities, including food, energy, and fuel, was conducted. Measures to ensure their continued availability were discussed across different timeframes.

The impact on farmers, particularly regarding fertiliser requirements for the Kharif season, was also assessed. Measures taken in recent years to maintain adequate fertiliser stocks are expected to ensure timely availability and food security. Alternate sources of fertilisers were also discussed to ensure future supply.

It was also noted that adequate coal stocks at power plants are expected to prevent any shortage of electricity in the country. (ANI)
