Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], January 24 (HBTV): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over the killing of a Chhattisgarh migrant worker, Ramnarayan Baghel, in Kerala’s Palakkad district, and announced financial assistance of INR 5 lakh for the bereaved family, the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s Office said.
Ramnarayan Baghel, a resident of village Karhi in Hasoud tehsil of Sakti district, was working in Kerala at the time of the incident. Terming the killing extremely painful, the Chief Minister said that violence against any innocent citizen goes against the core values of a civilised society and is a blot on humanity. He said the Chhattisgarh government stands firmly with the victim’s family with full sensitivity.
According to the CMO, arrangements have been made to immediately send family members of the deceased to Kerala. On the Chief Minister’s instructions, all necessary steps have been taken to bring Ramnarayan Baghel’s mortal remains to his native village with due respect. The mortal remains will be transported to Chhattisgarh by air.
The Chief Minister said the Chhattisgarh government is fully committed to the safety, dignity and justice of its citizens and will extend all possible assistance to the victim’s family during this difficult time.
On December 17, Ramnarayan Baghel was allegedly beaten to death by a mob after being mistaken for a Bangladeshi national in Palakkad district. Following the incident, District Police Chief Ajit Kumar said that a murder case has been registered and five accused have been arrested. ‘Five of the main accused have been arrested and remanded, and further investigation is ongoing in the case,’ Kumar told ANI.
