New Delhi [India], November 16 (HBTV): In a major breakthrough in the deadly car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Kashmiri resident who allegedly conspired with the suicide bomber to carry out the attack that killed 12 people and injured 32 others.

The agency arrested Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the car used in the blast was registered. He was apprehended from Delhi after the NIA launched a large-scale search operation upon taking over the case from Delhi Police a day after the November 10 explosion, which occurred at around 7 pm.

In a statement, the NIA said that its investigation revealed that the accused, a resident of Samboora, Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir, had conspired with the alleged suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi, to execute the terror attack.

According to the agency, Amir had travelled to Delhi to facilitate the purchase of the car that was later turned into a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The NIA has forensically confirmed the identity of the deceased driver of the vehicle-borne IED as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district and an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University in Faridabad.

The anti-terror agency has also seized another vehicle belonging to Nabi, which is currently being examined for evidence. So far, the NIA has examined 73 witnesses, including those injured in the blast that shook the national capital on November 10.

Working in coordination with Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police and other agencies, the NIA said it continues to investigate the case across multiple states.

The agency added that it is pursuing several leads to uncover the larger conspiracy behind the bombing and identify others involved. (ANI)
