New Delhi [India], December 6 (HBTV): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini chaired a high-level review meeting on key budget announcements of the Public Health Engineering Department and directed officials to complete all pending projects within stipulated timelines.

The Chief Minister said ensuring timely and effective delivery of basic amenities to citizens was the government’s priority and asked officers to work with responsibility and urgency. Officials informed him that under the Mahagram Yojana, work to provide urban-level drinking water and sewerage facilities in 12 selected villages was progressing rapidly.

They said the drinking water and sewerage network had already been completed in Bhora Kalan in Gurugram, Bhainswal Kalan in Sonipat and Khambi in Palwal. The remaining work in two other villages is expected to be completed by December 31, marking a significant step towards improving rural infrastructure.

The Chief Minister was also briefed on the budget announcement to lay 150 km of new sewer lines in various cities. Officials said 23 cities had been identified, of which 100 km of sewer lines had already been laid. The remaining work is scheduled to be completed within the next three months.

Saini said the government aimed to curb unnecessary extraction of groundwater to meet rising drinking water demand and to promote maximum use of treated wastewater. He directed all concerned departments to work in coordination and prioritise recycling and reuse projects.

Officials informed the meeting that treated wastewater generated from sewage treatment plants set up by the department in various cities was being supplied to industrial units and the Irrigation Department, helping reduce the use of fresh water in industry and agriculture. The Chief Minister directed that further possibilities be explored and 100 per cent reuse of treated wastewater be ensured.

He said water conservation and management were among the biggest challenges in the future and that the government was working on long-term plans to ensure optimal use of water resources. A detailed review of announcements related to the department was also conducted, with a progress report presented during the meeting.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that all announcements were completed within the stipulated time so that benefits reached citizens at the grassroots level. The meeting was attended by Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar, Commissioner and Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department Mohammad Shayin, and other senior officials.
