Ambala (Haryana) [India], January 26 (HBTV): Ambala police have arrested a man for allegedly spying for Pakistan and sharing sensitive information related to the Air Force station in the district.
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Sunil alias Sunny, a resident of Ambala, was taken into custody after information was received about a suspected individual passing on details about a defence installation. A case was subsequently registered against him.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Virendra Kumar said that during interrogation, Sunil’s mobile phone was seized, which revealed several suspicious activities. Investigators found that he had been working as a contractor at the Air Force station since 2020, where he was involved in repair work.
Police officials said the accused was allegedly in contact with a woman who would seek information from him, which he then passed on. Preliminary analysis of his mobile device indicated that information was being shared with a neighbouring country, described by officials as an enemy nation. However, the police said the matter is still under investigation and the evidence is being examined.
‘The Ambala police had information that a suspected man was providing information about our defence area, specifically the Air Force. After interrogation, a case was registered and he was arrested. His mobile phone was seized, and several suspicious elements emerged. He has been a contractor since 2020 and handled repair work at the Air Force station. He was in contact with a woman who used to ask for information, which he passed on. According to the device, information was sent to a neighbouring country, but this is his version and we are analysing all aspects ourselves,’ DSP Virendra Kumar said.
Police said the accused is currently on four days’ remand and that the investigation is at an early stage. Officials added that further details would emerge as the probe progresses.
In a separate case earlier, Haryana Police arrested a Kaithal resident, Devendra, for allegedly passing information to the Pakistan Army and the Inter-Services Intelligence during the recent India–Pakistan conflict.
DSP Kaithal Veerbhan said intelligence inputs led to the arrest of Devendra, a resident of village Mastgarh in Cheeka. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to being in contact with the ISI and sharing information related to Operation Sindoor and developments between India and Pakistan.
Police said cyber teams are conducting a detailed examination of the electronic devices seized in that case and assured that action would be taken strictly in accordance with the law. (ANI)
