New Delhi [India], January 27 (HBTV): The Election Commission in Chhattisgarh has deleted more than 27 lakh voters from the state’s electoral rolls as part of its ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise, according to data released by the poll body.
As per the Election Commission of India, out of a total of 2,12,30,737 registered voters as of November 27, 2025, around 1,84,95,920 people submitted their enumeration forms till December 18, indicating substantial participation in this phase of the exercise.
A total of 27,34,817 names have been deleted from the rolls. Of these, 6,42,234 voters were found to be deceased, 19,13,540 were marked as shifted or absent from their registered residence, and 1,79,043 were found to be enrolled at multiple locations.
In an official statement, the Chhattisgarh Election Commission said the completion of this phase was the result of coordinated efforts by District Election Officers across 33 districts, 90 Electoral Registration Officers, 377 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, 734 Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and booth-level officers deployed at 24,371 polling booths, supported by more than 30,000 volunteers. It added that field representatives of all seven recognised political parties also participated, with 38,846 Booth Level Agents appointed by them.
According to the poll body, the period for filing claims and objections began on December 23 and will continue until January 22, 2026, providing electors an opportunity to seek inclusion of their names in the electoral list. The hearing and verification process will be conducted from December 23 to February 14, 2026, and the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on February 21.
The Election Commission has advised citizens to submit the appropriate forms depending on their requirements, with Form 6 for new or first-time voters, Form 7 for deletion requests, and Form 8 for corrections, including updating or replacing EPIC numbers. It said applications can be submitted to the respective booth-level officer or online through the ECINET mobile application or the voters’ portal.
The Commission also noted that under the Special Intensive Revision guidelines, no name can be deleted from the draft electoral roll published on December 16, 2025, without prior notice and a reasoned order by the concerned Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer. Any aggrieved elector may appeal to the District Magistrate and subsequently to the Chief Electoral Officer under the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
