Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) [India], December 1 (HBTV): Security forces have recovered weapons and identified six Maoists, including three women insurgents, who were killed during multiple encounters on November 11 in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said.

Speaking to ANI, Inspector General of Police Bastar P Sundarraj stated that an operation was launched on November 11 based on the ‘suspicion of the presence’ of the CP Maoist organisation in the district. District Reserve Guards from Bijapur and Dantewada, the Special Task Force, and other security units took part in the operation.

‘During the operation, several encounters took place between the security forces and the Maoists. After the encounter, the dead bodies of six Maoists, including three women Maoists, were recovered from the spot by the security forces,’ IG Sundarraj said.

He added that the Maoists were identified as Divisional Committee member Kanna, who is in charge of the Central Area Committee; Area Committee member Jagat; and other party members Mangali and Bhagat, making a total of six identified insurgents.

Sundarraj said that a large number of graded weapons, including AK-47s, LMGs and INSAS rifles, were recovered from the site. He noted that security forces remain capable and prepared.

Earlier, IG Sundarraj had expressed confidence that Chhattisgarh could become naxal-free by March 31, 2026. He said that over the last 20 months, more than 2,200 naxals have joined the mainstream.

‘Left Wing Extremism has been a major security challenge not just for Bastar and Chhattisgarh but for large parts of the country for decades. The last few years have been very decisive for the security forces in the Bastar region. In the last two seasons, we have recovered over 450 Naxalite bodies in the region, including the bodies of top cadres like Basavaraju and others. In the last couple of months, more than 300 Maoist cadres, including Central Committee and Politburo members and other Divisional Committee members, have decided to shun violence and join the mainstream,’ he said.
