Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], December 30 (HBTV): Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh on Tuesday briefed on the killing of Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura who was killed in Uttarakhand’s capital, stating that five accused have been arrested while efforts are underway to trace a sixth suspect who remains absconding.

SSP Singh said a preliminary investigation had been conducted, following which additional sections, including those related to attempted murder, were added to the case.

‘Along with that, a supplementary report was taken, in which the sections were increased. Sections related to attempt to murder were added on the basis of statements. In the meantime, a separate team was formed, and five people were arrested. The sixth accused is of Nepali origin. He left the place the next day after the incident. For this, a dedicated team has been set up. As per information so far, the accused may be hiding in nearby bordering areas,’ he said.

Singh also said that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had been briefed on the developments in the case and that statements of the victim’s family had been recorded.

‘We have also transferred the investigation to a senior gazetted officer. The Chief Minister has been briefed, and the facts of this case are being monitored at the senior level and at the DGP level. We have recorded the statements of the victim’s family. If any statement has been left out or anything was not expressed at that time, it will be included along with relevant evidence in the investigation, and the outcome will be reflected in the final chargesheet,’ the SSP said.

He added that the complaint related to the incident was filed 24 hours after the attack by the victim’s brother and friends.

‘The complaint was filed after 24 hours of the incident by the victim’s brother and some of his friends. After this, a team was set up to identify the accused. In the meantime, six people were identified. As it was known that the victim was admitted to the hospital and was in a serious condition, the doctor’s statement was recorded,’ he said.

Meanwhile, members of the National Student Union of India held a candle march in New Delhi on Tuesday, demanding justice for Angel Chakma.

Chakma, an MBA student, was attacked by a group of miscreants using knives and blunt objects in Dehradun on December 9 and later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
