Chumoukedima (Nagaland) [India], January 7 (HBTV): The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) on Tuesday reaffirmed its political demand for a separate administration in the form of a Union Territory, stating that the Kuki-Zo people can no longer live together with the Meitei community under the prevailing circumstances in Manipur.

In an official press release, the Council said the decision was unanimously adopted during a Governing Council General Meeting held on December 30, 2025, at the VTI Auditorium in Rengkai, Churachandpur, following what it described as a comprehensive assessment of the political, social and security situation in the state.

Quoting the resolution, the KZC said the Governing Council had reaffirmed its long-standing political demand for a separate administration under the Constitution of India and unanimously resolved that the Kuki-Zo people ‘cannot and shall not participate in the formation of the Government of Manipur’.

The statement further said that the KZC Cabinet, in a meeting held on Tuesday, formally endorsed and reaffirmed the resolution, asserting that it represents the collective and democratic will of the Kuki-Zo people.

The press release was issued under the signatures of Henlianthang Thanglet, Chairman of the Kuki-Zo Council, and Thangzamang, General Secretary of the Council.
