Chumoukedima, Nagaland, March 3 (HBTV): A Dimapur court has sentenced a man for the killing of a 17-year-old girl in October 2020. A special POCSO court on March 2, Monday, sentenced one Yilobemo Mozhui to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of the girl.
The case pertained to the killing of a class-10 student, whose body was found on October 22, 2020, in the premises of St. Clare Higher Secondary School, Kacharigaon.
According to the prosecution records, the accused was 19 years old at the time of the commission of the crime and a theological student. He befriended the victim through Facebook in September 2020. They then reportedly met for the first time on October 20, 2020, and again the following evening at Kacharigaon village gate, from where they proceeded towards the school ground.
Media reports stated that an altercation broke out between them after the convicted man became jealous when the victim was preoccupied on her phone. He allegedly placed her in a chokehold and caused her to lose consciousness. Thinking that she might regain consciousness and call for help, Mozhui reportedly struck her on the head multiple times with a stone.
Media reports said that the convicted man reportedly admitted to sexually assaulting the victim when she was unconscious.
After scrutinising the evidence on record, reports stated, the court held that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. Mozhui was accordingly convicted under the relevant provisions of law and sentenced to undergo life imprisonment.
