Chumoukedima, Nagaland, January 23 (HBTV): The Khango Konyak faction of the NSCN has said on Friday, January 23, that it welcomes independent investigations by law enforcement agencies over the group’s alleged abduction and assault of a local businessman.
On January 19, state police and security forces raided the underground faction’s Thilixu-based ceasefire board office following the alleged abduction of the businessman, one Kiyeto Zhimomi. Various allegations and counter-allegations between Zhimomi, reportedly a GB as well, and the NSCN-Khango faction itself have continued to be traded since then.
The faction issued a statement, received here on Friday, naming Zhimomi to a wide range of criminal activities. The group mentioned crimes such as organized vehicle and insurance fraud, manufacture and distribution of adulterated liquor, smuggling of narcotics by misusing railway logistics, and storage and logistics linked to narcotics including poppy seeds from his warehouse.
The NSCN-Khango faction claimed these matters were “widely known locally, extending beyond speculation to community-level awareness.”
The group also alleged that Zhimomi collected unauthorized taxes and protection money. This he did by invoking the name of the NSCN-K, the group said. Approximately 40 lakh was illegally siphoned from individuals and firms, the faction claimed.
In stated regards, the faction has welcomed independent investigation by law-enforcement agencies; it called for verification of financial trails, witness accounts, and material seizures; and due legal process to establish facts.
