New Delhi (India) [India], December 12 (HBTV): President Droupadi Murmu met and interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Imphal, Manipur, on Thursday.
During the interaction, President Murmu assured them that the government stands with them and is committed to addressing their needs. She said efforts are underway to secure the homes and livelihoods of displaced individuals from Manipur.
The President also emphasised that the Government of India is taking necessary steps to help them move towards an environment of peace and sustained prosperity in the state.
Rashtrapati Bhawan, in a statement, said the President met a group of IDPs in Imphal and assured them of continued government support. It added that she affirmed the government’s commitment to securing their homes, livelihoods, and the future of their children, while urging them to strengthen harmony within the community.
Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu expressed condolences to the families of those who died in a road accident in Arunachal Pradesh, where 21 construction workers are feared dead. In a post on X, she wished a speedy recovery to the injured and conveyed her prayers to the bereaved families.
On December 8, a truck reportedly skidded off a hilly stretch of the Hayuliang-Chaglagam road in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district and fell into a deep gorge. According to officials, at least 21 people from Assam’s Tinsukia district are feared dead. Police said 22 people, including the driver, were travelling in the mini-truck to Hayuliang for construction work.
