Guwahati, April 08 (HBTV): In a political development in Assam after the conclusion of election campaign, the BJP has filed an FIR against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

BJP state spokesperson and Special Media in-charge Ranjib Kumar Sarma informed the media that an FIR was filed at Basistha Police Station on Tuesday evening in Guwahati against Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge over alleged inflammatory remarks made during an election rally.

Ranjib Kumar Sarma alleged that during an election rally in Assam’s Sribhumi district, Kharge compared the BJP and RSS with poisonous snakes. He further claimed that Kharge stated that even if someone is engaged in prayer or reciting the Quran, if a poisonous snake is seen, it should be killed immediately, and allegedly compared BJP and RSS in a similar manner.

Sarma said the BJP considers the remarks objectionable and has urged the administration to take action against what it termed as hate speech. He also stated that the party would approach the Election Commission seeking appropriate action against the Congress leader.

The development has added to the ongoing political tensions in the state following the end of campaign ahead of the April 9 polls.
