Kohima, April 8 (HBTV): The Core Committee on Reservation Policy (CoRRP) of the Five Tribes held a key meeting with the Reservation Review Commission (RRC) today at the Commission office.
Describing the interaction as “fruitful,” Er. Tesinlo Semy, Convenor of the CoRRP, said that the meeting involved thorough discussions and an exchange of important findings. Despite the positive engagement, the committee reiterated that its core demand remains unchanged.
The Five Tribes continue to push for either scrapping the existing reservation policy or restructuring it into a 50-50 model, where 50 percent of opportunities fall under open competition and the remaining 50 percent are reserved for economically weaker sections. They added that further deliberations on this proposal are expected.
Regarding the commission’s timeline, it was clarified that the government has already set a six-month deadline, which is scheduled to conclude in May. The committee expressed hope that the commission will complete its work on time and deliver a fair outcome for all sections of Nagaland’s population.
While the commission was constituted without delay, its initial progress was reportedly slowed due to technical issues and disruptions caused by agitations, which affected its early functioning.
When asked about possible next steps if their demands are not met within the given timeframe, the committee said no decision has been taken yet. However, they indicated that any future course of action would be discussed in consultation with the Apex Tribal Hohos.
The Five Tribes reaffirmed their expectation that the commission will act justly and address the concerns of all stakeholders.
