New Delhi [India], September 1 (HBTV): A Special Court at Rouse Avenue on Monday allowed an application permitting the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to interrogate US national Matthew Aaron Vandyke and Ukrainian national Viktor Kaminskyi while they are in judicial custody. The NIA sought details about the alleged masterminds based in Myanmar.
Six Ukrainians and one US national are in judicial custody following their arrest in April 2026 by the NIA in an alleged terror conspiracy case.
Special Judge (NIA) Prashant Sharma permitted the NIA to interrogate Vandyke and Kaminskyi on September 2 and 3 between 11 am and 5 pm while they remain in judicial custody.
The court allowed the application after hearing submissions from counsel for the NIA. Special Public Prosecutor Rahul Tyagi, along with Public Prosecutor Jatin Khatri and advocate Amit Rohila, appeared for the NIA.
The NIA submitted that the accused persons needed to be interrogated to effectively carry out the investigation.
The agency said sustained interrogation of Vandyke and Kaminskyi was required to confront them with certain facts disclosed by witnesses and to unearth the larger conspiracy allegedly hatched in the case.
The NIA also submitted that it was necessary to obtain more details about other suspects who are allegedly the masterminds based in Myanmar.
It further submitted that, given the sensitivity and seriousness of the matter and in the interest of national security, Vandyke and Kaminskyi needed to be interrogated in judicial custody at Central Jail, Tihar, New Delhi, in the interest of the investigation.
The NIA said a Ukrainian translator would also be required to assist its team during the interrogation of Kaminskyi. (ANI)
