972 gm of gold paste worth INR 72 lakh found; Imphal airport customs detain one

Imphal, Manipur, April 30 (HBTV): Personnel of the Anti- Smuggling Unit of the Custom Division of Manipur’s Imphal and CISF personnel at the Imphal International Airport apprehended a person along with a quantity of gold from the airport, on Sunday. 

The gold in the form of paste is estimated to worth approximately INR 70.32 lakh.   

The identity of the apprehended person was not available to the media at press time.  

According to a statement issued by the Custom Division, the security detained a person who was in possession of a packet containing gold paste. Also, two oval-shaped packets suspected to be foreign-origin gold in paste form, each wrapped in a rubber sheath and concealed in the rectum of the accused were found.        

The gold paste weighed 972.28 gram and was valued at approximately INR 70.32 lakh, the statement said.   

Further investigation to apprehend others involved in the smuggling racket is underway, reports said.
