Fierce storms accompanied by heavy rains have been wreaking havoc in several parts of Manipur blowing off roofs, uprooting electrical lines, or uprooting trees besides killing animals.

Chumoukedima, Nagaland, May 2 (HBTV): Fierce storms accompanied by heavy rains have been wreaking havoc in several parts of Manipur. In the rural areas of Imphal East, steel roofs of houses were unhinged on Thursday morning.

Disturbing weather conditions prevailing in the state led to power lines being cut off in several places. In Thoubal district’s Waithou areas, ‘katcha’ (makeshift, crude) houses got carried away by the storm, while some large trees were uprooted. These blocked the main roads and created inconveniences for commuters.

As the rains continue, people in the rural areas are facing problems with crude houses at the receiving end of the weather condition. The urban and commercial areas are facing power outages, as the storm affected power lines in several areas, severely affecting businesses establishments.

In Imphal East’s Kairang areas, electric poles were uprooted in the storm.

Animals were found dead on the roads. Birds that fell from the trees have also become a cause for concern. Reports from Tamenlong say the heavy downpour blocked the Tamenglong shortcut road (Tamenglong to Noney district).

A strong wind caused a power outage in Tamenglong yesterday during the midnight hours. The electric department informed that the 33kv HT line from Reangpang to Tamenglong tried charging at 7:15 am but failed. The line may have faults due to winds during the previous night. It was reported at press time that the department could not check the line due to continuous rainfall.
