The Manipur Naga Youth Organization has demanded the state and central governments to appoint a new Tribals Affairs and Hill minister.

Imphal, Manipur, May 8 (HBTV): The Manipur Naga Youth Organization has demanded the state and central governments to appoint a new Tribals Affairs and Hill minister. The incumbent minister has been out of station for the past one year, updates stated.

Thotreingam Keitrangao, the president of the youth organization, issued the organization’s demand to both the Manipur and central governments to intervene. It demanded appointment of a new Tribals Affairs and Hill minister as the incumbent minister had been out of station for the past one year hindering filing processes and other activities within the department.

This is reportedly proving a great inconvenience to tribal peoples in the state.

Keitrangao said the organization has nothing against any individual or political party or group in particular. But the Naga people being the largest tribal group in the state, they are made to suffer as the incumbent minister has remained out of station since May 3 the previous year citing bad law and order situation in Manipur.

Tensions and frequent incidences of violence continue to be reported from Manipur as the state continues to struggle to return to normalcy since ethnic violence broke out in May 2023. Violence broke out between the valley-based Meitei community and the hills-based Kuki-Zo tribes.
