Agartala (Tripura) [India], May 1 (HBTV): The Airport Police of Agartala on Wednesday arrested a former official of a community club, Bharat Ratna Club, here in connection with the killing of its secretary.

Durga Prasanna Deb, the secretary of the Bharat Ratna Club in Tripura's Agartala, was shot dead in the Shalbagan area by an unidentified individual on Tuesday evening.

The club’s former secretary, Pradyut Dhar Chaudhury, was arrested and handed over to the West Agartala Police Station for further course of action, the Airport Police said.

They said that raids and investigations are on to reveal the facts as to why the murder happened.

Deb was the secretary of the Bharat Ratna Club, located near the MBB Airport, known for organizing the largest Durga Puja festival in the state.

The assailants fled the scene after the incident, the officials added.

"Police teams comprising personnel from Airport Police station and New Capital Complex police station have launched a joint manhunt to catch the assailants. Repeated raids were being conducted in the potential hideouts of the accused person," Superintendent of Police of West Tripura district, Dr Kiran Kumar had said earlier.

According to police sources, the possible reason behind the incident is a power tussle between two active groups.
