A powerful explosion on a bridge from a suspected Improvised Explosive Device has cut off National Highway 2 in Manipur.

Imphal, Manipur, April 24 (HBTV):  A powerful explosion at a bridge from a suspected Improvised Explosive Device has cut off the National Highway 2 in Manipur. The incident reportedly happened around 12:30 am at a bridge that connects Saparmeina and KoubruLeikha in Kangpokpi district of the state. The explosion was reportedly so powerful that it left three craters in the middle of the bridge. Due to the explosion, reports say, cracks have appeared at both ends of bridge.

National Highway-2 connects Imphal to Dimapur and the rest of the country by road. Preliminary reports say there were no casualties from the explosion. That the attackers chose late night to execute the plan may indicate that the motive of the explosion was to destroy the bridge. As it was late night there was less traffic and no human casualty was reported at press time.

Reports say restrictions have been imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles on the highway. Tribal bodies in the nearby areas have condemned the attack and reportedly called for an emergency meeting.
