Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], March 8 (HBTV): A team of Enforcement Directorate officials on Friday raided multiple locations in West Bengal in connection with an alleged teacher recruitment scam in the state.

The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) teacher recruitment scam came to light after the arrest of Partha Chatterjee, a Trinamool Congress leader who served as the education minister in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's cabinet until his arrest on July 23, 2022.

Earlier on February 16, a team of the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids on close associates of Chatterjee in Kolkata.

Chatterjee was arrested after INR 21 crore in cash and jewelry worth more than INR one crore was recovered from the Kolkata residence of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of the former education minister.

Chatterjee and his aide Mukherjee are facing investigations in the alleged recruitment scam.

Further, the Enforcement Directorate summoned Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee in connection with an alleged recruitment scam in September the previous year.

The summons to Banerjee came weeks after the central investigative agency conducted raids on the office of 'Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd,' which the federal agency alleged was "used for making dubious transactions running into crores of rupees."
