Brown sugar worth 3.5 crore concealed inside pumpkins seized in Jiribam

Imphal, Manipur, April 25 (HBTV):  Security forces and police in Manipur have found drugs concealed in pumpkins that were being transported in a truck, updates said.      



A combined team of 39th Assam Rifles and Jiribam police station apprehended two individuals with 30 soap cases of contraband brown sugar worth INR 3.5 crore from Jiribam district on Wednesday, police said.



The apprehended persons have been identified as one Abdul Mannan Mazumder and a Khalil Ulla Barbhuiya.



Acting on a tip off, the combined team found the brown sugar from a pickup truck heading towards Cachar from Tipaimukh, Pherzawl district.



Upon inspection, the team found 30 soap caps of brown sugar, collectively weighing approximately 363.45 grams (excluding the weight of the soap caps), worth approximately INR 3.5 crore concealed inside pumpkins.



The apprehended persons and the sized contraband drug were handed over to Jiribam police station for further investigation and legal proceedings, the reports added.
