Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said the government of India has consistently been working towards making the North East a violence-free, extremism-free, and conflict-free region.

Agartala (Tripura) [India], March 5 (HBTV): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said the government of India has consistently been working towards making the North East region violence-free, extremism-free, and conflict-free over the past decade.

Dr Saha said this in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, referring to the tripartite agreement that was signed among the government of India, the government of Tripura, and the Tipra Motha.

The Tipra Motha had been demanding constitutional solutions to address the indigenous tribal people’s demand for greater recognition of their rights and greater developmental attention.

‘The government of India has been continuously working to make the North East a violence-free, extremism-free, and conflict-free region for the past decade. During this period, several thousand individuals from various organizations in the North East have abandoned the path of violence and joined the mainstream,’ he said.

‘This agreement was necessary given the present times. I believe this agreement will play a crucial role in making Tripura 'Ek Tripura, Srestha Tripura',’ said Dr. Saha.

Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for working towards the historic agreement. He congratulated the leaders of the Tipra Motha too.
