Tripura: Cannabis worth INR 1.5 crore seized, one arrested

Agartala, Tripura, March 1 (HBTV): Tripura Police and Border Security Force personnel have confiscated 358 kilograms of cannabis from the residence of one Abhijit Paul in the Bashpukur area under Sepahijala district. The estimated value of the seized contraband is close to INR 1.5 crore, according to a police official.



Acting on a tip-off, security agencies launched a raid and successfully seized the dry Ganja, concealed in various locations within the residence.



“We received confidential information from our sources indicating that the accused individual had been involved in the distribution of Ganja for an extended period. Subsequently, a joint operation was initiated, resulting in the confiscation of significant quantities of the banned substance. The total weight of the seized Ganja amounts to 358 kilograms,” said Subrata Debnath, the officer in charge of Jatrapur police station.



Debnath said that the accused, Abhijit Paul, has been apprehended.       



“We have taken Abhijit Paul into custody, and a case is being filed against him under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act,” Debnath said.



The official emphasized that such enforcement activities would persist in the future.       



“Over the past few months, we have intensified our operations against drug-related activities in bordering areas, yielding commendable results,” he added.
