The National People’s Party has demanded the attention of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited to address the condition of the Kohima-Jessami road.

Chumoukedima, Nagaland, May 8 (HBTV): The Phek unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) has demanded the attention of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to address the condition of the Kohima-Jessami road, particularly the package-II stretch between Chakhaba and Kikruma. This portion is the lifeline of Phek district and several other districts in the state, the NPP stated in a press release received here.

During the past more than two years, the party stated, this stretch of road has been almost ‘impassable but this problem is being completely neglected.’

‘Literally this stretch is no longer a road anymore. Various organizations and individuals have time and again raised this concern regarding this road but the concern authority hasn’t paid any heed to it. The road is in its worst condition from a long time now and is full of muddy patches, dust, and potholes. The road is not only in appalling condition but is posing threat to the lives of the commuters,’ the NPP stated.

The NPP stated that even though the services of the previous contractor, M/s KCPL, was terminated and the work was awarded to M/s Ratna infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. with appointed date on January 5, 2024 there is no sign of road construction workers starting any work.

‘Therefore, we call upon the NHIDCL to immediately give its special attention to this stretch of road with utmost importance. It is disheartening to witness the lackadaisical approach of M/s Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. where even after several months of work being awarded to them they are least concerned to even maintain the road to make it pliable,’ the party stated.

‘The contractor must remind themselves that their previous ventures in the state of Nagaland were futile and these should not be repeated. Therefore we call upon the contractor to commence with the work without any further delay,’ the NPP stated.
