Kohima, Nagaland, February 27 (HBTV): Nagaland’s Tourism minister Temjen Imna Along today said the Hornbill Festival brought in approximately 3.1% of the total allocated money for the event.

From the amount of INR 5,50,00,000 allocated to the Tourism department by the Nagaland state government in 2023 for the Hornbill Festival, approximately INR 17,11,980 was added to the State Exchequer. This was from various components during the 24th edition of the festival, which is about  3.1% of the total allocated money, the minister said.

Along was replying to a query by MLA Achumbemo Kikon in the ongoing fourth session of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in Kohima on February 27.

The minister added that that direct government revenue generation from the festival may not be treated as a priority.

This can be considered a beneficial trait as the actual investment of the government generates more than twenty-fold in returns for the economic partners of the festival, which are ‘infused’ into the local economy, he said.
