Abducted Army officer Konsam Kheda rescued by Manipur police

A soldier who was abducted by gunmen from his residence in Charangpat Mamang Leikai under the jurisdiction of Yairipok police station of Thoubal district in Manipur on Friday has been rescued.

Imphal, Manipur, March 8 (HBTV): In a huge sigh of relief for security agencies, a soldier who was abducted by gunmen from his residence in Charangpat Mamang Leikai under the jurisdiction of Yairipok police station of Thoubal district in Manipur on Friday has been rescued by the police.                   

The abducted ‘subedar’ (roughly equivalent to that of a warrant officer) has been identified as a 40-year-old Konsam Kheda, who is currently posted at Orissa. Updates said he was home for a break.             

Kheda was abducted from his residence in the morning. Following a complaint to Yairipok Police Station by the victim's family regarding the incident, Thoubal district police personnel conducted search operations on the routes that the miscreants may have taken. He was later rescued safely by a team of Thoubal district police personnel with assistance from the Kakching district police from an area in Waikhong in Kakching district.   

The reason for the abduction remains unknown. 

The identity of the alleged abductors was unavailable at press time.
