Bangladeshi smuggler killed, BSF trooper injured in border clash

Agartala, March 18 (HBTV): A confrontation between Bangladeshi smugglers and border security forces turned fatal as one smuggler was shot dead while another escaped with bullet wounds. The incident occurred in Maguruli under Kailashahar sub-division in Unakoti district in Tripura.



According to BSF sources, a group of Bangladeshi nationals attempted to smuggle goods into the village, prompting BSF officials to intervene. The situation escalated when the smugglers retaliated with violence, including stone-pelting. In response, BSF personnel opened fire, resulting in one smuggler's death and injuries to others.



BSF trooper identified as Mohan Singh sustained a head injury during the clash.



In separate operations, BSF, in collaboration with other security agencies, apprehended three Rohingya migrants at Agartala railway station and seized a significant quantity of brown sugar at Kumarghat railway station in Unakoti district.



"On 17.03.2024, the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of BSF, in a joint operation with RPF and GRP, apprehended three Rohingyas from Agartala railway station. Further legal action is being initiated," stated a BSF press release.
