Los Angeles [US], January 10 (HBTV): Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer One Battle After Another has emerged as the frontrunner of the 2026 BAFTA Film longlists, securing a record 16 mentions following the first round of voting across 25 categories.

As announced by BAFTA on January 9, the political satire on US extremism and polarisation received 16 nods, the highest since the longlist round was introduced in 2021, according to Variety. The film earned mentions in major categories including Best Film, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, while also dominating the performance lists with nods for Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Teyana Taylor, Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn.

Previously, the record for the most BAFTA longlist mentions was held by Emilia Perez in 2025 with 15 nods. Other high-performing films in recent years include All Quiet on the Western Front in 2023, and Oppenheimer, Barbie and Killers of the Flower Moon in 2024.

The longlist also features Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, both of which secured 14 mentions each, including Best Director, Best Film and performance categories.

Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme received 13 mentions, while Bugonia and Frankenstein followed closely with 12 each. Sentimental Value and Wicked: For Good rounded out the list with eight mentions apiece.

British films also made a notable impact, with I Swear and Pillion appearing on six longlists each, and The Ballad of Wallis Island featuring on five. Other films highlighted include 28 Years Later, Die My Love, FI and A House of Dynamite.

With the first round of voting concluded, the second round to determine the official nominations opened on January 9 and will close on January 20, 2026. The final nominations are scheduled to be announced on January 27.

The 2026 BAFTA Awards ceremony will be held on February 22, 2026.
