Washington [US], February 4 (HBTV): Actors Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh have teamed up for a new action comedy film titled Mayday.
Apple TV+ on Tuesday unveiled the first-look image from the film during its press event in Santa Monica, along with the release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Described as an action-packed buddy comedy with a spy twist, the film features Reynolds as US Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy ‘Assassin’ Kelly, who is sent on a secret mission into Russian territory during the Cold War. When the mission goes awry, Troy is left stranded behind enemy lines, where he is discovered by Nikolai Ustinov, played by Kenneth Branagh, a former KGB agent with an unusual fondness for American culture.
Initially fearing capture, Troy instead forms an unexpected bond with Nikolai, who chooses not to turn him in. The two men then work together to survive and find a way out.
The film also stars Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova, and David Morse.
Mayday is written, directed, and produced by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, best known for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The film is produced by Skydance Media as part of its deal with Apple, with Ryan Reynolds also serving as an executive producer.
Reynolds was last seen in Deadpool & Wolverine. Branagh has recently directed Belfast, Death on the Nile, and A Haunting in Venice, and also appeared in Oppenheimer.
Mayday is scheduled to premiere on September 4 on Apple TV+.
