Wokha, Nagaland, April 6 (HBTV): Members of two major Naga tribes, the Lotha and the Sumi community in Wokha district recently went on a community fishing at Doyang in the district.

Villagers of the Lotha tribe’s Tsungiki village and the Sumi tribe’s Philimi community fished at Coco Bridge in Doyang.

The two communities have been practicing this fishing event for the past 24 years to strengthen brotherhood and relations between the two communities.

The highlight of community fishing among Naga communities is the members assembling at the river to pound a type of bark whose juice is said to immobilize the fish. The fish are then collected.

Twelve legislators led by Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton participated in the fishing event.
