Chumoukedima, Nagaland, August 7 (HBTV): Mmhonlumo Kikon, national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), resigned from the primary and active membership of the party on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Kikon, an ethnic Naga and a former Member of the Legislative Assembly in Nagaland, was the only national spokesperson of the BJP from the Northeast.
In a letter to BJP president JP Nadda, Kikon said, “...I believe the time has come for me to take a step back and recalibrate my journey. My decision is guided by the need to explore new avenues of public engagement and policy work, which I believe will allow me to continue contributing to society in different ways.”
Kikon resigned from the primary and active membership of the party on Thursday, August 7, 2025. He had also served as the person in charge of the BJP in Mizoram.
“Since joining the BJP more than a decade ago, I have had the honour of serving the Party and contributing to its growth and activities in various capacities and responsibilities entrusted to me. My association with the Party has been a deeply enriching experience, having served as prabhari of Mizoram State and also as National Spokesperson,” he said.
A party source said that a lack of space for constructive opinion and alleged mistreatment of minority Christian groups in the Northeast may have contributed to the resignation.
