Dimapur, Nagaland, October 29 (HBTV): A nongovernmental organization (NGO) visited a college student in Dimapur who was reportedly assaulted and robbed on October 10 by three cadres of armed faction NSCN-Khango.

Ironically, the victim was on his way to take part in a 5km race organised by NGO Gracious Life Foundation on the occasion of World Mental Health Day in Dimapur, when the incident happened.

Following the incident, the traumatized victim reportedly suffered from distress and withdrew socially for about a week.

On Monday, members of the race’s organizers Gracious Life Foundation visited the student, identitfied as one Anthony, and released a statement condemning the incident.

The NGO said in a statement that the irony lies with the incident taking place on such a day when mental health was being promoted and prioritised. Stating that it was crucial to understand why these actions prevail, the NGO said effective measures to prevent such crimes should be determined and the societal norms and culture of criminal activities that is being followed in Naga society should be reexamined.
