44 injuries on Sivaganga custodial death case victim, says post-mortem report

Amid the political storm surrounding the custodial death of Ajith Kumar in Tamil Nadu, the post-mortem report has revealed that the victim sustained 44 injuries on various parts of his body.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 4 (HBTV): Amid the political storm surrounding the custodial death of Ajith Kumar in Tamil Nadu, the post-mortem report has revealed that the victim sustained 44 injuries on various parts of his body.

According to the report, Ajith Kumar suffered injuries on his forehead, right eyebrow, leg, wrist, left forearm, left wrist, and ankle.

Ajith Kumar, a 28-year-old temple guard from Sivaganga, allegedly died while in police custody. He had been detained for questioning in connection with a theft at the Madapuram Kaliamman temple in Tirupuvanam.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran is scheduled to visit Ajith Kumar’s residence in Thirupuvanam, Sivaganga district, on Saturday to offer his condolences to the bereaved family.

On July 1, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that the case would be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He assured full cooperation from the state government in the probe.

‘Considering that five members of the police department have been accused in this matter, and to ensure that no doubts or suspicions arise regarding the investigation, I have ordered that the case be transferred to the CBI. The Tamil Nadu Government will provide full cooperation for the CBI probe,’ Stalin said.

Earlier that day, the state government confirmed the arrest of five police personnel in connection with the alleged custodial death.

‘In connection with the alleged custodial death of Ajith Kumar, who died during an inquiry conducted on June 28 in Sivaganga district, six police personnel were immediately suspended from duty on the same day. Based on the findings of the post-mortem, the case has now been converted into a criminal case, and five police personnel have been arrested in connection with the incident. The case has been officially registered at the Tirupuvanam Police Station under Section 196(2)(a) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Act, and has been forwarded for judicial investigation,’ the Tamil Nadu government stated.

Ajith Kumar’s family has alleged that his death was not natural, claiming that he was beaten and tortured during police interrogation.
