Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh) [India], November 15 (HBTV): The Railway Administration has announced ex-gratia compensation of INR 10 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, INR 5 lakh to those grievously injured, and INR 1 lakh to those with minor injuries after four people were killed and several others sustained injuries when a passenger MEMU train collided with a goods train near Bilaspur railway station in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

Officials said the incident occurred around 4 pm when a MEMU train coach rammed into a stationary goods train. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for immediate medical assistance.

The Railway Administration stated that all possible support is being extended to the affected passengers and their families. Coordination with district authorities and medical teams is ongoing to ensure timely relief measures. A detailed inquiry will be conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety to determine the cause of the accident and suggest corrective steps.

Bilaspur District Collector Sanjay Agrawal told ANI that the accident took place when the last bogie of a local train hit the first bogie of a goods train near Bilaspur. He said four people lost their lives and rescue operations were underway.

Inspector General Sanjeev Shukla said there were fears of more casualties and that efforts were being made to rescue an individual trapped inside the damaged coach. He added that rescue teams were working to evacuate all injured passengers.

Officials noted that the Railways have mobilised resources to ensure prompt treatment for the injured. Further details are awaited.
