New Delhi [India], May 21 (HBTV): According to a recent report released by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), 196 drugs have been found not of standard quality (NSQ).
The report, based on monthly surveillance activity, includes 60 drug samples tested by Central Drugs Laboratories and 136 by State Drug Testing Laboratories.
‘As per routine regulatory surveillance activity, the list of not of standard quality (NSQ) and spurious drugs are displayed on the CDSCO portal monthly. For April 2025, Central Drugs Laboratories identified 60 drug samples as NSQ, and State Drug Testing Laboratories identified 136 drug samples as NSQ,’ the Union Health Ministry note stated.
‘Identification of drug samples as NSQ is based on failure in one or more specified quality parameters. The failure is specific to the tested batch by the government laboratory and does not warrant concern over other products available in the market,’ it added.
Additionally, in April 2025, a drug sample from Bihar was identified as spurious. It was manufactured by an unauthorized manufacturer using a brand name owned by another company. The matter is under investigation, and action will be taken under the relevant Act and Rules.
The identification of NSQ and spurious medicines is conducted regularly in collaboration with state regulators to ensure these drugs are detected and removed from the market. (ANI)
