Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], March 11 (HBTV): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai held discussions with Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) President Kapil Dev on developing international-standard golf infrastructure in Nava Raipur to promote sports tourism and expand the sport’s ecosystem in the state.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Chhattisgarh government, including IAS officer Subodh Kumar Singh, and PGTI Chief Executive Officer Amandeep Johl, according to an official release.

The discussions focused on developing a championship-level golf course in Nava Raipur that meets global tournament standards, with the long-term objective of hosting international golf events.

Under the proposed framework, the state government would facilitate land allocation and institutional support, while PGTI would work towards attracting private investment, technical expertise, and international partnerships.

Officials said the project aims to position Nava Raipur as a potential venue for major professional tournaments, golf training academies, and tourism-related initiatives.

The meeting also explored the possibility of hosting more professional golf tournaments in Raipur and nearby regions to strengthen Central India’s presence in the national golf calendar.

PGTI representatives said expanding tournaments beyond traditional metropolitan centres could help create new opportunities for players, encourage youth participation, and promote sports tourism in emerging regions.

Another proposal discussed during the meeting was the possibility of establishing a Nava Raipur franchise in ‘72 The League’, India’s newly introduced franchise-based professional golf format.

Officials said such an initiative could help build a regional sporting identity, attract corporate participation, and increase fan engagement.

According to PGTI representatives, international experience shows that the development of quality golf infrastructure often contributes to broader economic growth through hospitality, real estate, conferences, and international sporting events.

The proposed collaboration is expected to support tourism, employment, and regional development while positioning Nava Raipur as a potential international golf destination.
