Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], May 2 (HBTV): A grieving father of Surasani Sitaram Reddy has appealed to state and central authorities for justice and police protection following the suicide of his son at Hyderabad’s Hussain Sagar lake earlier in February this year.
Speaking to ANI, Surasani Venkateshwar Reddy alleged that explicit videos involving his daughter-in-law Renuka and another individual, Ramana Reddy, were circulated on social media in September 2025, which deeply affected his son.
'In 2018, we got him married to Renuka from Kothapalli village in Nandyal mandal, Nandyal district. After the marriage, they lived in Bengaluru for a year, then in Markapuram for a year, and eventually settled in Bachupally, Hyderabad. They were fine after settling down. However, in September 2025, Renuka made explicit videos with her boyfriend Ramana Reddy and forwarded them to him. Ramana Reddy then shared them on social media, where around 2,200 people viewed them publicly. Unable to bear that, my son came to Markapuram, while Renuka went to Nandyal,' the victim’s father said.
'A month later, her elders, including her father and uncle, came to Markapuram to talk. They said the girl made a mistake and requested forgiveness, assuring it would not happen again,' he added.
Reddy said that despite family-level discussions and attempts at reconciliation, tensions continued, and his son allegedly faced harassment and mental distress linked to the marital dispute.
'I told them that she has a habit and will not change, and that a divorce was necessary. They refused and said they would take care of it. I suggested that if she liked Ramana Reddy, they should get her married to him. They said they would look into it and left,' he said.
He further stated that his son later agreed to return to his wife despite his objections.
'My son told me that Renuka had spoken to him and that he would adjust for the sake of the children. I warned him against it, but he said whatever his fate was, it would happen,' he said.
According to the father, the situation worsened in the days leading up to the incident. On February 8, the victim allegedly posted a suicide note on social media before jumping into Hussain Sagar Lake.
'He told me he was not at peace and had gone to Goa. After returning, the girl once left their 26-month-old child locked in the house. I advised him to file a police complaint, which he did. Her family then stayed at his house for about 10 to 12 days,' Reddy said.
'On February 8 at around 6 pm, my son wrote a suicide note, posted it on Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook, and then jumped into Hussain Sagar Lake,' he added.
He said that police have so far arrested two accused persons and urged authorities to expedite the investigation and arrest the remaining individuals named in the FIR.
'We filed a complaint against 11 people. He named eight individuals in his suicide note. So far, two have been arrested, and the police say they are investigating. Authorities must speed up the process and arrest all those involved,' he said.
Appealing to the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as well as the Union Home Minister, he also sought police protection for his family, alleging threats from relatives of his daughter-in-law.
'Our lives are in danger, and we request protection. I am also appealing to the Union Home Minister for help. Our family is facing serious threats,' he added.
Police investigation into the matter is ongoing. (ANI)
