Palwal (Haryana) [India], October 8 (HBTV): Two children, aged nine and 13, were killed and a seven-year-old sustained injuries after a speeding car driven by a police constable hit them in Palwal, Haryana, on Monday afternoon, police said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohinder Verma confirmed that head constable Narender, posted in Mewat, was driving the vehicle. The accused has been arrested and a case registered against him.
DSP Verma said, 'A speeding car with a temporary number, driven by head constable Narender, hit the three children returning from Uttawar government school. Two children have died. Their post-mortems have been completed. The third child, aged seven, was severely injured and referred to PGI Hospital in Rohtak.'
A medical examination is being conducted to determine if the accused was under the influence of alcohol while driving. 'The incident occurred near Utawad around 1:30 pm. The accused has been arrested and sent for a medical examination. We have registered a case and seized the car. The accused is being interrogated,' the DSP added.
'The police extend condolences to the families of the deceased. The district administration has instructed officers to provide support and assistance to the victims’ families,' he said.
In a separate case, Delhi Police arrested Gaganpreet Kaur, the driver of the BMW involved in the Dhaula Kuan accident, which resulted in the death of a motorcycle rider. A Delhi Police team also visited the residence of the deceased, Navjot Singh, and recorded the statement of an eyewitness as part of the ongoing investigation. (ANI)
