Haryana: Woman arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan

Haryana Police have arrested a woman from Hisar on charges of spying for Pakistani agencies, officials said.

Hisar (Haryana) [India], June 1 (HBTV): Haryana Police have arrested a woman from Hisar on charges of spying for Pakistani agencies, officials said on Saturday.

The woman, identified as Jyoti Rani, daughter of Hisar resident Haris Kumar, was taken into custody following allegations that she passed sensitive information to Pakistani operatives. She reportedly met a Pakistani officer named Ahsan-ur-Rahim in Delhi, travelled to Pakistan twice, and was in contact with him thereafter.

Hisar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kamaljeet stated that the woman has been booked under the Official Secrets Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). She has been placed under a five-day police remand.

‘Yesterday, based on inputs that we had, we arrested Jyoti, daughter of Haris Kumar, under the Official Secrets Act and BNS 152. We have received some suspicious things after we recovered her mobile and laptop. We have taken her on a five-day remand, and further investigation is on. She was in continuous contact with a Pakistani citizen,’ DSP Kamaljeet said.

He added that some suspicious materials were recovered from her mobile phone and laptop.

According to the police, during preliminary interrogation, Jyoti Rani revealed that she visited the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi in 2023 to apply for a visa, during which she met a man identified as Ahsan-ur-Rahim, alias Danish. She subsequently travelled to Pakistan and allegedly maintained contact with him thereafter.
