Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], February 19 (HBTV): The Special Operations Group (SOG) on Wednesday carried out an operation in Kolkata and arrested Prince Saini, a dummy candidate carrying a reward of INR 10,000, in connection with the paper leak and impersonation racket in Rajasthan.
The accused, a fourth-year MBBS student, was allegedly involved in appearing as a dummy candidate in a competitive examination.
Additional Director General of Police Vishal Bansal said that Prince Saini (27), a resident of the Khatauli police station area of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, is currently studying in the fourth year of MBBS at Barasat Government Medical College in Kolkata.
Investigations revealed that Prince had appeared as a dummy candidate in the science examination in place of Manohar Singh Bishnoi, a resident of Sanchore. The examination was held on December 24, 2022, at the Savina Kheda examination centre in Udaipur. A deal of INR 2,50,000 was allegedly struck between Prince and Manohar Singh for the fraudulent act.
The SOG said it used technological tools to track the accused. Under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police Paris Deshmukh and Additional Superintendent of Police Prakash Sharma, special software was developed to match candidates’ photographs with database records. With technical analysis and the assistance of an informant network, the team traced Prince’s location in Kolkata and arrested him. Inspector Praveen Singh and Constable Sitaram were part of the operation.
So far, the SOG has arrested 27 accused in connection with the 2022 Senior Teacher (Secondary Education) Class II competitive examination fraud case. These include 12 original candidates, 10 dummy candidates, including Prince, and five intermediaries and co-accused.
The General Knowledge and Educational Psychology examination held on December 24, 2022, was cancelled following a question paper leak and was later rescheduled for January 29, 2023.
During the investigation, authorities found that some science stream candidates had attempted to secure selection through dummy candidates, following which a case was registered and further action initiated.
