Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 24 (HBTV): Greater Noida Police have issued a non-bailable warrant against Nirmal Singh, the builder of Lotus Green, in connection with the death of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, officials said on Friday.

Police said the warrant was issued after the builder’s role emerged during the course of the investigation. With the NBW in place, police teams have been directed to trace the accused and initiate further legal proceedings.

On Thursday, Greater Noida Police arrested two individuals, Ravi Bansal and Sachin Karanwal, who are associated with Lotus Green Construction Private Limited and the builder, in connection with Mehta’s death.

Earlier in the day, personnel from the National Disaster Response Force inspected the site in Sector 150, Greater Noida, where 27-year-old Mehta died after his car fell into a water-filled pit on the intervening night of January 16 and 17.

The inspection followed the National Green Tribunal taking suo motu cognisance of the incident and seeking responses from multiple state and local authorities over alleged environmental violations and prolonged administrative inaction.

An FIR had earlier been registered against five individuals — Abhay Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Manish Kumar, Achal Bohra and Nirmal Kumar — for alleged violations of the Environmental Protection Act, 1986, the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the FIR, the pit was deep, unbarricaded and filled with highly polluted water mixed with garbage, emitting a foul stench that affected nearby residents. Located close to a public road, the pit posed a serious threat to human life, with no warning signs or safety measures in place. The land was purchased by Lotus Green Construction in 2014 and later sold to Viztown in 2020, although the company continues to hold a significant share. (ANI)
