Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 29 (HBTV): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, built at a total cost of around INR 36,230 crore.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state BJP President Pankaj Choudhary were also present on the occasion.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ganga Expressway is a 594-kilometre-long, six-lane (expandable to eight lanes), access-controlled greenfield high-speed corridor. The expressway passes through 12 districts — Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj — connecting western, central and eastern Uttar Pradesh through a single seamless corridor.
The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from the current 10–12 hours to around six hours, improving ease of movement and transportation efficiency.
A key feature of the project is a 3.5-kilometre-long emergency landing facility in Shahjahanpur district, designed to support aircraft operations during emergencies and enhance national security preparedness.
The expressway is envisioned as a major economic corridor, with integrated manufacturing and logistics hubs planned across approximately 2,635 hectares along its route. It is expected to reduce logistics costs, improve supply chain efficiency and boost manufacturing competitiveness.
The project is also aimed at providing farmers with improved access to urban and export markets, enabling better price realisation and strengthening rural incomes. Additionally, it is expected to boost tourism and generate employment opportunities across the region.
The expressway will form a key part of Uttar Pradesh’s expanding road network, linking with existing and planned corridors such as the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Jewar Link Expressway and Farrukhabad Link Expressway, along with a proposed extension from Meerut to Haridwar. This network is expected to enhance connectivity across the state and support balanced regional development.
Prime Minister Modi also planted a sapling earlier in the day in Hardoi.
